    Prolific Producer Dies at the Age of 60

     

    Damir Ibrahimović

    Born in Sarajevo in 1965, Damir Ibrahimović was an economist by training and profession, and founder of the production company Deblokada. His debut feature was GRBAVICA, directed by his wife and partner Jasmila Žbanić. The film premiered in Competition at the Berlinale in 2006 where it won the Golden Bear and continued with nominations for European Film And Actress at the European Film Awards.

    Among the many films he produced throughout his career are some of the best-known films from Bosnia & Herzegovina: ON THE PATH (2010), for which lead actress Zrinka Cvitesic was nominated for the European Film Awards, and LOVE ISLAND (2014), both directed by Jasmila Žbanić, CURE: THE LIFE OF ANOTHER (2014) by Andrea Staka and MEN DON’T CRY (2017) by Alen Drljević.

    One of his biggest successes came in 2021 with QUO VADIS, AIDA? which premiered in Venice and continued winning countless awards, among European Film, Director and Actress at the European Film Awards and the LUX Audience Award.

    He also produced the long-term documentary BLUM: MASTERS OF THEIR OWN DESTINY (2024), this year’s Oscar candidate from Bosnia & Herzegovina.

    Damir Ibrahimović died on 9 October. We will miss him.
