By submitting the accreditation form, the media representative accepts and agrees to the following:

The entered and transmitted personal data will be stored in the European Film Academy database and used to contact you in connection with the accreditation process and for information purposes concerning the European Film Awards.

Representative’s name, media outlet and country may be passed on to other accredited media representatives, to our partners, sponsors and funding institutions, as well as to the agents of the nominees and winners of the European Film Awards. Furthermore, this information may be stored in order to fulfill our reporting obligations to the funding institutions and for other statistical evaluation.

Other personal data will be deleted as soon as the purpose for retaining such data ceases to apply, i.e. four weeks after the European Film Awards took place. Notwithstanding the generality of the foregoing, data may be stored if required by Union of Member State law to which we are subject.

Data will also be blocked or deleted if a retention period prescribed by laws and regulations expires, unless there is a need for further storage of the data for the conclusion of fulfillment of a contract.

7. EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY

7.1 The award is presented to the European director(s) (see 1.6) of a feature-length European documentary intended for theatrical release.

7.2 Documentary films taken into consideration must have a minimum length of 70 minutes. The films must have had their first official screening (be it at a festival, at a regular cinema or online) between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2024. The Academy Board has the right to refrain from these rules in exceptional cases.

7.3 To be eligible, the main production country of a film has to be European (see 1.5) and the film has to fulfil at least one of the following criteria:

– To have been awarded at least at one major festival’s international or main competition (see list of festivals)
– To have been selected at least once for the main competition plus two other programmes by at least three major festivals
– To have been theatrically released in at least three countries or sold for such release

7.4 Films must be submitted by their rights-holders and made available for viewing to the selection experts. The submitted version has to be the original language version with English subtitles (for accessibility reasons this is also mandatory for English-language films).

Submission deadline for documentary films is 31 May 2024.

7.5 Documentary experts appointed by the Academy Board decide on a pre-selection. From the pre-selection a committee of Academy Members and documentary experts appointed by the Academy Board selects 12 documentary films for the EUROPEAN FILM AWARDS DOCUMENTARY FILM SELECTION proposed to the Academy Members to be considered for a nomination. The committee may propose individual achievements in selected films to be taken into consideration for the Excellence Awards (see 5.3 f.) where applicable.

7.6 The selected documentaries are announced in August and made available for viewing to the Academy Members.

7.7 There are five nominations in the category EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY. Based on the EUROPEAN FILM AWARDS DOCUMENTARY FILM SELECTION, three to four of the nominations are voted for by the Academy Members. The Academy Board can add up to two nominations in each category. The board’s nominations need to be agreed on by 70% of the board members present at the nomination meeting.

7.8 The nominations are announced four to five weeks prior to the European Film Awards Ceremony.

7.9 The Academy Members vote for the winner. The votes are kept by a notary or an auditor. The winner is announced during the European Film Awards Ceremony.
