Locarno Short Film Candidate: IN FLOW OF WORDS

    IN FLOW OF WORDS

The European Film Academy and the Locarno Film Festival congratulate:

    IN FLOW OF WORDS

    IN FLOW OF WORDS

IN FLOW OF WORDS follows the narratives of three interpreters of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. They interpreted shocking testimonies from witnesses, victims and perpetrators, without ever allowing their own emotions, feelings and personal histories to be present. Contrary to what happens in the tribunal, this film places their voices and experiences center stage.

IN FLOW OF WORDS was chosen by the festival’s international Pardi di domani jury comprised of Kamal Aljafari, (filmmaker and artist, Palestine), Marie-Pierre Macia (producer, France) and Adina Pintilie (filmmaker, artist and curator, Romania). The jury statement describes the film as “A powerful and unsettling work, which faces us with the darkest shadows of our human nature. A thought-provoking investigation on language and its ability (or inability) to tackle collective trauma and personal responsibility. A complex cinematic concept which creates an emotional ‘safe space’, where mourning and maybe healing become possible.”

The film is now a candidate for a nomination in the category ‘European Short Film’ at the European Film Award 2021.

The EFA Short Film Programme is organised by the European Film Academy and EFA Productions in co-operation with a series of film festivals throughout Europe. At each of these festivals, an independent jury presents one of the European short films in competition with a candidacy in the short film category of the European Film Awards.

This is the 20th short film candidate for 2021. When the annual cycle is completed, the participating festivals will nominate five short films from this list. Afterwards, the more than 4,000 members of the European Film Academy – film professionals from all over Europe – will vote for the overall winner that will be presented at the 34th European Film Awards Ceremony.
