    The power station in Vemork is famous for its role in THE BATTLE FOR HEAVY WATER (1948) and other films.

    The first movie shot here was a Norwegian – French co-production called THE BATTLE FOR HEAVY WATER (1948) about the heavy water operation during World War II. The drama documentary was directed by Norwegian Titus Vibe-Müller and Frenchman Jean Dréville.
    The next movie was the famous THE HEROS OF TELEMARK, a 1965 British war film directed by Anthony Mann based on the true story of the Norwegian heavy water sabotage during World War II. The film stars Kirk Douglas as Dr. Rolf Pedersen and Richard Harris as Knut Straud, along with Ulla Jacobsson as Anna Pedersen. The heavy water factory and power plant station are situated in the mountain side, above the small-town Rjukan, framed by dramatic nature.
    Numerous films have been shot here, the last ones being the Norwegian War movie NO 24 and the Netflix production TROLL 2.
    Vemork power plant station and the town Rjukan (and Notodden) are also a UNESCO world heritage sitse since 2015.
