    THE NETHERLANDS: LantarenVenster, Rotterdam

The LantarenVenster has a rich history stretching back to 1949 as a venue for movies, dance, theatre and music at its old location on Gouvernestraat in Rotterdam. The new LantarenVenster opened in October 2010 in the light and spacious New Orleans building on the Wilhelmina Pier in the Kop van Zuid district. Since then, the focus has been on arthouse movies and music, specifically jazz.

The LantarenVenster’s film programme focuses on quality movies from European and non-Western countries, documentaries and classics which cannot be seen at ordinary cinemas. The music programme focuses mostly on jazz, and the LantarenVenster has a reputation as the premier jazz venue in Rotterdam. You will also find pop, world music, blues and singer-songwriters on the programme.

Catching a concert or movie can be combined with a bite to eat in the spacious foyer. It can fit up to 350 people, and it looks out over the Rijnhaven harbour. Simple affordable dishes such as salads and burgers are available. There is an outdoor terrace, weather permitting.
