    Roman Well

The Roman Well is a true film hero. Although it has the adjective “Roman” in its name, and it was not actually built by ancient Romans, but by the Turks, during their centuries-long presence in the Balkans, as a source of drinking water for the Kalmegdan fortress, which rises above the meeting of two great rivers – the Sava and the Danube.

The Roman Well fascinated Alfred Hitchcock, and was used as a location for films by Dušan Makavejev, Dragan Marinković and Mirslav Lekić.

In fact, Dušan Makavejev used it for his film LOVE AFFAIR OR THE CASE OF THE MISSING SWITCHBOARD OPERATOR (1967).
