The European Film Academy and the Curtas Vila do Conde - International Film Festival congratulate:

Candidate of Curtas Vila do Conde – International Film Festival
NHA MILA
Portugal/Switzerland, fiction, 18 min

WRITTEN & DIRECTED BY Denise Fernandes
PRODUCED BY Luís Urbano & Sandro Aguilar

After 14 years away from her homeland, Salomé is forced to return to Cape Verde to see her dying brother. During her stopover at Lisbon airport, Águeda, a cleaning lady, recognises Salomé as "Mila", her childhood friend. Águeda invites Salomé to leave the airport and spend the stopover at her home, with the women of her family. The neighbourhood transports her onto a spiritual journey, whose destination unfurls a painful bond with her homeland.

NHA MILA was selected by the festival's international jury, consisting of directors Elena Lopez Riera (Spain), Susana Sousa Dias (Portugal) and João Paulo Miranda Maria (Brazil).

The film is now a candidate for a nomination in the category 'European Short Film' at the 33rd European Film Awards.

The EFA Short Film Programme is organised by the European Film Academy and EFA Productions in co-operation with a series of film festivals throughout Europe. At each of these festivals, an independent jury presents one of the European short films in competition with a candidacy in the short film category of the European Film Awards.

When the annual cycle is completed, the participating festivals will nominate five short films from this list. Afterwards, the 3,800 EFA Members – film professionals from all over Europe – will vote for the overall winner that will be presented at the 33rd European Film Awards Ceremony.
