EFA Mourns Dušan Makavejev

European cinema has lost a great filmmaker and the European Film Academy has lost a dear friend: Dušan Makavejev.

Born in Yugoslavia, the Serbian director was one of the EFA founding members. He received a Berlinale Silver Bear in 1968 for INNOCENCE UNPROTECTED, came back in the following year to join the festival's jury, and received a FIPRESCI Special Mention at its 1971 edition for W.R: MYSTERIES OF THE ORGANISM.

His films MONTENEGRO (1981) and THE COCA-COLA KID (1985) both ran in competition at the Cannes Film Festival.

Dušan Makavejev passed away on 25 January in his native Belgrade. He was 86.
