EFA Mourns Bernardo Bertolucci

European cinema has lost a great filmmaker and the European Film Academy has lost a dear friend: Bernardo Bertolucci.

The Italian director was one of the EFA founding members, and received a Special Jury Award at the first EFAs in 1988 for THE LAST EMPEROR, for which he also won two Oscars. Bernardo Bertolucci created films that will never be forgotten and received virtually every award there is, among them a Golden Lion in Venice, a Leopard of Honour in Locarno, various Italian David di Donatello Awards, an honorary Golden Palm in Cannes and many more. In 2012, he received the EFA Lifteime Achievement Award at the 25th EFAs in Malta.

Bernardo Bertolucci passed away today in Rome. He was 77.
