The festival's international jury was comprised of Davy Chou (France/Cambodia), Thomas Elsaesser (Germany), Joana Ferreira (Portugal), Josh Mond (US) and Mark Rappaport (US/France). This is their statement:

In a succession of unexpected turns, this film “brings home” to the audience the heartbreaking reality of today’s European refugee crisis. At once unsentimental and deeply affecting, this short-film follows an ordinary family of four, apparently going on holiday, as it is caught up in a nightmare situation of desperate decisions and mortal danger. The director makes us experience what it is like to slide from a comfortable middle-class existence to a life of bare survival in the space of a single day. Directed like a thriller, this film is a uniquely powerful appeal to Europe’s conscience to go beyond tolerance and compassion, and to make the refugees’ case our own. The jury wishes to nominate for the European Film Award the short-film HOME, directed by Daniel Mulloy.

This is the second EFA nomination for Daniel Mulloy who was nominated before in 2007 with his short film DAD.   The EFA short film initiative is organised by the European Film Academy in co-operation with a series of film festivals throughout Europe. At each of these festivals, an independent jury presents one of the European short films in competition with a nomination in the short film category of the European Film Awards.  The next nomination for 2016 will be presented in co-operation with the festival del film Locarno. When the annual cycle is completed, the nominees will be presented to the over 3,000 members of the European Film Academy and it is they who will elect the overall winner: the European Short Film 2016 which will be presented at the 29th European Film Awards Ceremony on 10 December in Wroclaw.
