Vila do Conde Picks THE MARVELOUS MISADVENTURES OF THE STONE LADY

The European Film Academy and the Curta Vila do Conde- international Film Festival congratulate:

Vila do Conde Short Film Candidate
THE MARVELOUS MISADVENTURES OF THE STONE LADY
LES EXTRAORDINAIRES MÉSAVENTURES DE LA JEUNE FILLE DE PIERRE
written & directed by Gabriel Abrantes
France/Portugal, fiction, 20 min

At night, as soon as the Louvre Museum's doors close and the last visitors leave, the works of art come to life. A sculpture runs from the Louvre to confront real life's complexities and contradictions.

The film was selected by the festival's jury consisting of Alejandro Díaz Castaño, programmer/director of the Gijon International Film Festival (Spain), directors Aya Koretzky (Portugal), Konstantina Kotzamani (Greece) and Kleber Mendonça Filho (Brazil), and Leo Soesanto, programmer for the Semaine de la critique (France).

The jury statement is as follows: “For the interesting inversion of the perspective regarding the observed object; for the mastery in combining art with current political aspects through humor and irony in a beautiful combination between classic and contemporary;  for the imaginative creativity of the narrative by introducing nonhuman characters with existential reflections and deep feelings; for the incredible capacity to communicate with the audience.”

THE MARVELOUS MISADVENTURES OF THE STONE LADY is now a candidate for a nomination in the category 'European Short Film' at the 32nd European Film Awards.

The EFA Short Film Programme is organised by the European Film Academy in co-operation with a series of film festivals throughout Europe. At each of these festivals, an independent jury presents one of the European short films in competition with a candidacy in the short film category of the European Film Awards.

The next candidate for 2019 will be presented in co-operation with the Motovun Film Festival in Croatia.

When the annual cycle is completed, a committee appointed by the EFA Board will nominate five short films from this list. Afterwards, the more than 3,600 EFA Members – film professionals from all over Europe – will vote for the overall winner that will be presented at the 32nd European Film Awards Ceremony in Berlin.
