    Film Academy Network Europe 2023

    Karlovy Vary 2023

For the first time, the 2023 meeting of the academy network took the shape of an ACADEMY DAY titled “Academies open doors” and included two panel discussions and a reception.

The meeting once again showed the great interest in sharing the different ways in which academies are organised, how they are registered and managed, how many members pay what kind of fee and what they get in return. Other issues included an update on the registration of the network, sustainability, pressure by streaming platforms, considering a website with a protected members area and creating a “Best of Europe”label.

Moderated  by Tim Dams, European editor, Screen International, the first panel concentrated on what filmmakers wish for and included Mattia Colombo, Thomas Imbach, Rada Šešić and Katarina Tomková.

The second panel shed a light on what academies can offer and saw Katharina Albrecht-Stadler, Deirdre Hopkins, Dariusz Jablonski and Yann Tonnar. It was moderated by Matthijs Wouter Knol, Director of the European Film Academy

Attending were representatives of the Austrian, British, Catalan, Czech, Danish, Dutch, European, Icelandic, Israeli, Italian, Luxembourgish, Polish, Portuguese and Spanish Film Academies.
