FRANCE: Le Studio 43, Dunkirk
Located in Dunkirk for over forty years, Le Studio 43 is a major player in arthouse cinema and cultural outreach in the Hauts-de-France region. Run by the association Terre Neuve, the programming is open to world cinema, and actively promotes film education and audience engagement for everyone.
Le Studio 43 is an Art et Essai cinema and a member of the Europa Cinemas network. It welcomes over 70,000 spectators per year and offers a wide range of activities : workshops, screenings, debates, training sessions, and film education projects. It stands out for its strong local roots and its ability to connect creation, transmission, and sharing the joy of cinema.
In 2023, a major restructuring marked a new step in its development. Supported by the CNC, the region Hauts-de-France, and the City of Dunkirk, this renovation modernized the facilities and led to the opening of a third space, innovative and modular, designed by architect Jean-Marc Lalo.
This hybrid space has been imagined as a laboratory for creation and experimentation. This place was designed for observing, understanding, and creating images.
Many configurations are possible: screenings, film sets, training and workshop spaces, podcast recordings, and live performances. New activities can be developed: workshops on foley, dubbing, editing, short film production, video games, and TV series, providing renewed access to cinema for all audiences – young people, families, and seniors.
