    CZECH REPUBLIC: Kino Kavalírka, Prague

    Kino Kavalírka in Prague

Kino Kavalírka is a boutique cinema with an unconventional offer of films, festivals, shows, events and progressive audiovisual programmes.

In the 1930s, Kino Na Zámečnici was established but ceased operation in the early 1990s. In 2021, our association kruton managed to revive the cinema, and since 2022 it has been open year-round.

The cinema’s programme is divided into events for the general public and an audiovisual education programme. For the public, the cinema offers contemporary and older art films from current distribution, various events, screenings and festivals, its own screening of Scandinavian films, short films and films by female filmmakers, experimental mini-showcases or regular presentations of the indie video game scene. The cinema regularly purchases licences for individual films that are not distributed in the Czech Republic. These screenings are often combined with other special programmes (lectures, discussions, workshops or special Film & Drink screenings). Kino Kavalírka also focuses heavily on children and teenage audiences with special projects for children and young people (school screenings and educational screenings). This year we launched an audiovisual education department. The cinema is an e-cinema, the first phase of modernisation happened in January 2025 (Dolby Surround 5.1 sound), other phases of modernisation are planned for the next years.
