    Iconic German Actor Dies at the Age of 95

    Born in 1930 in Zürich to a German mother and an Italian father, Mario Adorf became one of the most prolific contemporary German actors.

    His breakthrough came in 1957 with THE DEVIL STRIKES AT NIGHT by Robert Siodmak. The film was nominated for the Oscars and won a German Film Award. For his performance as an alleged mass murderer, Mario Adorf won Best Performance by a Young Actor and the German Film Critics Award.

    In a truly international career that spanned over more than 70 years and included over 200 films, he worked with

    As one of Germany’s leading film and television stars, Mario Adorf was nominated for the German Film Awards for his performance in THE GENTLEMEN by Franz Seitz, Rolf Thiele & Alfred Weidenmann (1965), DIE REISE NACH WIEN (literally “The Journey to Vienna”) by Edgar Reitz (1974) and THE TIN DRUM by Volker Schlöndorff (1979). He received the German Film Award in Gold in 1992 for PIZZA COLONIA by Klaus Emmerich and was nominated at the European Film Awards for ROSSINI (European Actor 1997).

    To honour his achievements, Mario Adorf received the prestigious Adolf Grimme Award in Gold in 1994, the honorary Bavarian Film Award 2001, honorary German Film Award 2004 and a Leopard Career Award in Locarno 2016.

    Mario Adorf died on 8 April 2026 in Paris. We will miss him.
