Cinéma Bel Air is a non-profit art house cinema located in the Dornach district of Mulhouse. Managed, programmed, and animated by the Cinéma Bel Air Association of Mulhouse, it has been promoting, for several decades, a demanding, curious, committed, and inclusive vision of cinema.

Cinéma Bel Air is a single-screen theatre with 121 seats, officially recognized as an Art & Essai cinema by the CNC (French National Cinema Centre). It holds several quality labels:

    – Discovery and Innovation
    – Heritage and Repertoire
    – Young Audiences
    – Short Films

The cinema is run by a team of paid staff and dedicated volunteers. It is part of a civic and associative approach, working closely with numerous cultural, educational, activist, and social partners in the region.

Cinéma Bel Air offers a selection focused on :

    • French, European, and international auteur cinema
    • Original version films (subtitled)
    • Social issue documentaries
    • Films for young audiences (image education, animated films, school screenings)
    • Cinema heritage and restored classics

Each month, thematic series, festivals, or discussion evenings allow cinema to intersect with contemporary issues such as ecology, social justice, memory, architecture, and human rights.

Cinéma Bel Air plays a major role in film literacy and education in the Haut-Rhin region. It co-ordinates the regional roll-out of the national programs “Preschool at the Cinema” and “School and Cinema”, welcoming numerous school groups from preschool through high school.
It also oversees the cinema studies module at the University of Haute Alsace.

    The cinema also organizes:

    • Workshops for young audiences
    • Accompanied screenings for children and teenagers
    • Inclusive events for people with disabilities (e.g., Ciné Relax screenings)

Beyond film screenings, Bel Air is a true space for dialogue and community:

    • Debate nights, often with guest speakers
    • Concerts, community meals, and open-air activities, especially during events like Plein Air au Bel Air
    • An associative bar and spaces that foster conversation among spectators

Cinéma Bel Air is deeply rooted in its local area, with a strong commitment to making cinema accessible to all.
