Fremde Welten - Neue Freunde

An afternoon dedicated to film at the refugee shelter
Berlin, 3 - 6 October 2016

In close co-operation with the agency Berliner Wohnplattform which operates various housing projects for refugees and homeless people, the European Film Academy organised a special celebration for around 500 residents, EFA Members, neighbours and friends on 6 October at a shelter in Berlin-Charlottenburg.

The programme included a screening of the feature film ALMANYA (Germany 2011, directed by Yasemin Şamdereli) as well as a small „culinary world-trip“ and a performance by the band FATTOUCH with musicians from France, Lebanon, Romania and Syria. Special guests were district councillor Carsten Engelmann, the director of the screened film, Yasemin Şamdereli, and actress Demet Gül, featured in it as young Fatma.
The EFA team also invited guests, young and old, to participate in various activities such as creating your own flip-book and thaumatrope (turning wonder) or experimenting live with a green screen. At a separate stand, the German Film Academy presented selected films from their MIX- IT! project.

The previous workshop, directed by film education expert Kirsten Taylor, animation directors Veronika Samartseva and Maria Steinmetz, and composer/sound designer Andrea Martignoni allowed young people from the shelter and its surroundings to create and produce an animated short film, inspired by ALMANYA. The resulting film ABC OF INTEGRATION premiered during the celebration..

FREMDE WELTEN – NEUE FREUNDE (Foreign Worlds – New Friends) is a project of the European Film Academy in co-operation with Berliner Wohnplattform and supported by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg.
