Founded in 2006 to produce the European Film Awards Ceremony for television, EFA Productions gGmbH is the in-house production company of the European Film Academy e.V.
As the highlight of the activities of the European Film Academy, the European Film Awards take place in Berlin every second year. In 2008, after London, Paris, Rome, Barcelona, and Warsaw, the European Film Awards travelled to a Nordic country for the first time, taking place in Copenhagen. The Ceremony was broadcast live on Danish DR2, attracting a spectacular 160,000 - 170,000 viewers and a share of 7 - 8 %. Altogether, the Awards Ceremony was transmitted in 40 territories. In 2009, as Berlin’s unique contribution to RUHR.2010 European Capital of Culture, the European Film Academy and EFA Productions gGmbH presented the 22nd European Film Awards in Germany’s Ruhr Metropolis.
The 23rd European Film Awards will take place in Tallinn on 4 December 2010.
