EFA Mourns Michael Ballhaus

European cinema has lost a great cinematographer and the European Film Academy has lost a dear friend: Michael Ballhaus.

The legendary German cinematographer has worked with the greatest directors in Germany and the US, among them Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Martin Scorsese, Mike Nichols, Volker Schlöndorff, Francis Ford Coppola, Robert Redford and Wolfgang Petersen. He received three Oscar nominations and in 2006, was the first German to get the American Society of Cinematographers International Achievement Award - the most important recognition for a non-American cinematographer. In 2007, he received the EFA's European Achievement in World Cinema - Prix Screen International.

Michael Ballhaus passed away on Wednesday.
