Bristol Joins Short Film Initiative: Romanian DERBY Nominated
Great International Interest in European Film Academy’s Short Films
It is with great pleasure that the European Film Academy (EFA) announces that the Encounters International Film Festival Bristol (UK) has joined the EFA Short Film Initiative which is organised with 15 festivals across Europe. At each of these festivals, an independent jury presents one of the European short films in competition with a nomination in the short film category of the European Film Awards.
The Bristol Short Film Nominee for the European Film Awards 2011 is
DERBY
by Paul Negoescu
Romania 2010, 15 min., fiction
In DERBY, Mircea has a 15 year old daughter whose boyfriend is invited to dine with the family. He arrives earlier and they go to her bedroom. While watching TV, Mircea can hear his daughter moaning from her room. They start dinner and Mircea finds out that the boyfriend supports a different football team.
This is Paul Negoescu’s second nomination for the European Film Awards. In 2009, his short film RENOVARE was nominated at the Curtas Vila do Conde International Film Festival (Portugal) for the European Film Academy Short Film Award.
There’s great international interest in the short film initiative and the nominated short films will also be screened at a series of film festivals across Europe and beyond: SHORT MATTERS!, the European Film Academy’s short film tour, now includes more than 30 festivals world-wide, bringing these films to audiences from Bangladesh to Colombia, from India to Brazil… The next SHORT MATTERS! screenings will take place at the Festival du Cinéma Européen de Lille (France) and at the NexT Film Festival in Bucharest (Romania)
